Hey Folks!
I know only a month has past but its time for another “Dream Trip”. I left Iraq to see all those great things that you read and look at in fancy glossy books that are reserved for elegant coffee tables. Since 1998, my R&R took my army buddy and I around Europe
only to be too tired to go on. Incidentally, I missed my chance to see Italy.
This time in Italy, I met with my friend from my school days. I had an exciting time when we explored the grand ruins of Roma. From the coliseum (by the way remind to tell you how far it is to Summerfield) to the Vatican, this vacation was different in many aspects. I enjoyed the companionship of my friend and it felt like I was home. I experimented this time and took regular tours to attempt to cover as much as possible and with the little time that we had. The cost was higher, however I enjoyed myself without worrying if we seen all the highlights. Rebecca don’t forget to check out those creepy looking trees in front of my hotel in Roma.
Our vacation took us from Roma to Firenze (Florence), the famous land of Tuscany. From great works that we viewed such as the David, the Gates of Paradise, and the Birth of Venus, I say Firenze
had it all. Chianti was the wine of choice and in ample supply (more than water it seemed). A rich dark red wine that I worried be too rich but now a choice selection for me with Italian food.
After Firenze, our journey took us to the city of Milan with two things on its agenda: Opera and the Last Supper. The fore mentioned was out of season. It was beyond words to describe the work. I can only image to this day why mankind destroys things out of selfish. From wars right down to the idiot(s) standing next to me with a flash camera. I could only think why? “No picture PLEASE!” in broken English <flash> Are we all that disrespectful and selfish to ignore what damage we cause? It seemed as if no know listened. It really irked me to hear every 5 seconds of these demands and pleas for tourist to stop. I wanted to turn around and ask this woman if see wanted me to carve a piece of Italy SO she could have something to show everyone, Plain Stupidity and Selfishness.
Next, It was Euro-Star to Venice.
Venice was a big tourist trap and turned out not to be too exciting. We saw much of Venice in two days with a lot of time to spare.
Finally it was back to Rome before we parted our ways. We took the tour of the Vatican and marveled at the Sistine Chapel, WoW! And saw Roma at night.
I absolutely thought I was best not to try to see Italy
in two days in 1998. I think have drove myself insane not spending two weeks there.
Percy, I think August will be Norway or Greece what do you say brother?
Sean, I have not forgot about De Tours and Africa!
Denise, see you soon in Thailand!
Until we can meet again
